Earth Hour 2011
March 26, 2011 by John McRae · Leave a Comment

On Saturday, March 26, at 8:30 p.m. local time, we are being urged to turn out all our lights for one hour for the fourth annual Earth Hour.
There is much discussion out there as to whether or not this actually addresses the real issue of power conservation or whether it’s just a token gesture. World Wildlife Fund encourages us to make this the first step in changing our habits and suggest ways to take action on a number of different issues that can make a continual difference. In the same spirit of going beyond Earth Hour, I wrote a post earlier this week for Celebrate Green which suggest several fun ways you can continue to make less of an impact on the environment.
Whether or not Earth Hour translates into an ongoing commitment to use less energy, it certainly makes an impact during its yearly hour. In 2010, 126 countries and over 1 billion people participated, according to Wikipedia. This year, 131 countries and provinces have committed to participation.
